More than a thousand seek reopening of An Tearmann

The recent community petition asking that the An Tearmann cafe be reopened gathered more than a thousand signatures, writes Brian Byrne.
The petition was sent to the Camphill management earlier this week by the organiser, Simon Pallister, whose daughter Holly is a permanent resident in the Bridge Camphill Community. He says the people living in the facility really miss the interaction with local people which the cafe made possible, as well as it being a social hub for the people of Kilcullen.
The cafe was closed at the beginning of the pandemic and was not reopened after restrictions were lifted.
Simon also says that the closing of the River Walk at weekends is hard on the residents because that also limits interaction with the community for them.
"Anything to brighten their day is worth making the effort," he told the Diary. "I'd like to thank the people of Kilcullen for their support in signing the petition. An Tearmann was the beating heart of Kilcullen and since it closed that has stopped. It's time to restart it."
