Kilcullen masterminds at Memory Monday

The October Memory Monday audience was depleted somewhat — perhaps the weather forecast stopped people putting their noses out the door! writes Mary Orford on behalf of the Memory Monday organisers. However, those who were there had a thoroughly enjoyable get-together, filled with laughter and reminiscences.
Starting off with a few seasonal ghost stories for the month that's in it, we then had a Mastermind quiz where the specialist subject was Kilcullen. Safe to say, we had so many experts in the audience (surprisingly, one audience member turned out to be a Eurovision pundit — not alone did he know all the answers but he provided extra nuggets of knowledge).
We learned lots this morning — the contents of the diets for dogs to make them run faster at Mongrel Park, how much the Miami Showband charged for one night (too high for either the Carnival committee or the JFK), what people used for fuel during the Emergency war years, in which country the guillotine was invented, and what added items might be in a bottle of stout?
As you can tell, the topics were wide ranging but the amount of fun we discovered in all of the above and more was heartening on a damp Monday morning. The sign of a good event is when nobody wants to leave so we lingered over tea and barm brack. The Eurovision expert went away with a well deserved prize and the rest of us finally went home with lighter hearts.
