Pakistani art and local journalism for Kilcullen Culture Night
There are two sides to Culture Night in Kilcullen Library this year — an exhibition of Pakistani art and a reflection on my nearly five decades in journalism, writes Brian Byrne.
A series of paintings and prints made by Sobia and Jaweria will recall history and culture from a far part of the world. Born in Pakistan but living in Ireland, Sobia intends to integrate the culture of Pakistan with Irish culture. Using print making techniques, she has created etchings which show the history of 1947 Partition and Great Migration. A few paintings have been done in ancient style of Moghal Era of the 17th century. Jaweria has made works in calligraphy and natural still life paintings.
Sobia will be in the Library tomorrow, Friday 22 September, from 6pm to talk about her work, and your editor's input will be from 7pm. In the best tradition of news-writing, I'll be keeping it tight ...
