Gormanstown Choir's Music for Medicine will aid Syrian refugees

A Music For Medicine Concert featuring the Gormanstown Choir will be held in St Brigid's Cathedral in Kildare Town on Friday 13 October to raise funds for the Medical Mission for Syrian Refugees, writes Brian Byrne.
The concert will also have performances from the Dara Quartet and Consonance Quartet, as well as Arthur Greene on organ and Elena Ryan on viola. Tickets at €20 each are available on Eventbrite, where donations can also be made.
The money raised will go towards the provision of medicines and operating theatre space for the next mission to Northern Jordan organised by Atlantic Humanitarian Relief (AHR), beginning on 28 October. The last mission, in May 2023, included four volunteers from Gormanstown — Dr Brendan O'Shea, nurse Corinna Hopkins, Margaret Lynott and Dorly O'Sullivan.
The twice a year AHR missions provide medical, paediatric, surgical and dental care, together with humanitarian aid, focused on refugee camps in Northern Jordan. In all, some 80 people take part in each initiative, a mix of nurses, doctors, surgeons, dentists, pharmacists and humanitarian volunteers. Operated by AHR since 2010, the volunteers are from America, other parts of Europe and, increasingly in recent years, from Ireland. All volunteers are self-funded.
