Busy time at Riverbank Arts Centre

A number of current and upcoming events at the Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge cater to a range of different interests, from deep water exploration to a new show for young audiences created with the help of local schoolchildren, writes Brian Byrne.
An exhibition of works by artist and special effects producer Gavin Casey is currently on display in the Centre. SOUND | CODE | IMAGE comprises 23 paintings in the McKenna Gallery and 11 in a special Virtual Reality gallery where the artist investigates the intrinsic relationship between colour and sound, and its representation in art. On Culture Night, 22 September, Gavin will give tours of the exhibition between 6pm-8pm.
Performances of a new show by writer Paul Curley and puppet-maker Ger Clancy, Grey Matter, will take place on Saturday 23 September, at 11am and 1pm. The show explores the joyful relationship between a boy and his pet parrot as they journey through life together. Suitable for ages from eight years upwards. Tickets are priced €10 or €32 for family of four.
Into the Deep on Saturday 30 September is a talk by underwater cameraman, documentary filmmaker and ocean conservationist Ken O’Sullivan, whose most recent work  for RTÉ, North Atlantic - The Dark Ocean, has been nominated for several awards. He will talk about everything from free-diving with blue whales to filming sharks, dolphins, and the magical underwater world around Ireland. Time 7.30pm, tickets €17, €15, €10 (under 16s).
