Roddy Doyle workshop for creative writing tutors
A workshop for voluntary tutors for the children's creative writing programme Fighting Words will be held in the Riverbank Arts Centre on Friday 8 September, writes Brian Byrne.
Fighting Words was founded in 2009 by author Roddy Doyle and Sean Love in 2009, with the aim of providing free creative writing educational support for primary and secondary students.
Riverbank Arts Centre is the Kildare Partner of Fighting Words and they present free creative writing workshops for schools in the venue.
Fighting Words have over 400 volunteer tutors from all walks of life including students, retired people, writers (both professional and aspiring), teachers, journalists, and visual artists. More are needed, who can give whatever time they can to the project.
The workshop, starting at 10am, will include a presentation by Roddy Doyle, and Project Co-Ordinator Pierina Campbell will guide attendees through the event.
The workshop is free, and places can be booked through the Riverbank Box Office, either in person or by telephone on 045 448327 Monday to Friday 9.30am-5pm (closed for lunch 2-2.30) and Saturday 10am-1pm. Tickets can also be booked 24/7 on www.riverbank.ie.
