Looking Back: 'Nothing is permanent, change is ongoing' (January 2004)
With some 200 attendees, it was arguably the biggest public meeting ever held in Kilcullen Heritage Centre, on 12 January 2004, writes Brian Byrne.
Seated, standing and generally packed out, they had assembled to hear the details of Pat Dunlea's proposals for his Kilcullen Town Centre development, later to be known as Market Square.
The meeting was a Kilcullen Community Action event, and proved to be a strongly-argued session between those for and against the proposed development.
I reported on it for the KildareNetNews (KNN) experimental internet news website developed by myself and colleague Trish Whelan, which pre-dated the Kilcullen Diary.
I don't have my original photographs, and these are taken from the KNN story, necessarily low-resolution because of bandwidth considerations at the time. Quality limitations aside, they certainly bring back memories.
