Bus stop to change with CPC building
Proposed new location of the bus stop, opposite HSE Health Centre. |
The main bus stop in Kilcullen will be moved in the course of the Cross & Passion College new school building programme, writes Brian Byrne. When that happens, it will break a tradition of the current bus stop position going back almost a century.
The new location will be opposite the HSE Health Centre in a recessed area taking in part of the existing CPC grounds. According to the planning permission granted to the College, there will also be a bi-directional cycleway constructed along the frontage of the property, as part of Kildare County Council's Active Travel policy.
Kildare County Council has been in negotiation for a number of years with the Cross & Passion sisters for the transfer of land to provide a bus shelter.
Building the cycle way may also require moving the existing wall and railings, due to the requirement to maintain the road width at 6 metres, the footpath, and a 2.5-metres for the cycle way.
The current bus stop opposite The Hideout has been a key community, people transport, and freight link since the 1920s (pictured below is a bus at the stop c1929).
