Packed programme for Kildare Biodiversity Week 2023

A reminder that two local events in Kilcullen are just a part of a rich variety of initiatives across the county for Kildare Biodiversity Week, taking place from today, Friday 19 May, to Sunday 28 May, writes Brian Byrne.
The Kilcullen ones are the official opening of the Kilcullen Community Garden at the Library on Saturday 20th, and a 'What's in our River' workshop on Saturday 27th.
For the garden opening, families are encouraged to bring their own picnics from 2pm, and there will be presentations on how the garden was designed and developed, as well as chats in the library about what it was like as the original Boys School.
The river event the following weekend will begin at 3pm at the back of the Heritage Centre, and will be presented by ecologist Dr Jan Barrs, who lives in Castlemartin and works in the Zoology Department of UCD. Suitable for young and older.
Some 37 events for the week across the county are listed in the programme produced by the County Kildare Library and Arts service, which can be downloaded here or picked up at any library.
They include nature walks, biodiversity art workshops, bat walks, foraging and biodiversity identification events.
