Lots of wriggling life down by the river
It's teeming with life, much of it tiny, down by the Heritage Centre at the 'What's in our River?' presentation by local ecologist Dr Jan Baars on the biodiversity of the River Liffey, writes Brian Byrne.
The National Biodiversity Week event is promoted by Kilcullen Community Action and among the visitors this afternoon is County Kildare's new Biodiversity Officer Méabh Boylan who just joined KCC last week.
Lots of children are coming along with their parents to peer through microscopes at some of the tiny beings in the river and get up close and personal with some of the larger ones such as crayfish.
A lovely afternoon to get to know some of the wrigglies and swimmilies, and there are books and quizzes and identification sheets and all.
With Kildare Biodiversity Officer Méabh Boylan, second from left, are KCA's Martin Sheridan, Ilona Brede and Ray Kelly. |
