Bridge damaged in overnight crash

The bridge was damaged in the early hours of the morning when a car crashed into it writes Brian Byrne.

As Council workers barricaded off the site today, damage from the impact was very clear, with substantial stonework wreckage and two bollards hit.

Though no details of the incident have yet been made available, it is understood to have happened at around 1am. The car involved was an Opel or Vauxhall Corsa of 2000-2009 vintage, according to the headlight motor lying on the footpath as the Diary took the pictures. There are no reports of injuries.
