Work programme for Library Garden needs more people

A steel archway to provide a flowered entrance to the walkway in the Library Garden is to be installed this spring, writes Brian Byrne.
The plan was noted at the recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action, held in Teach na nDaoine, to decide on the group’s work programme for the coming year. Library Garden coordinator Martin Sheridan said that while it might seem the garden was completed, ‘it has only been started’.
“We need more people to help with bringing the project on,” he said. “You hate relying on the same people all the time. If everyone at this meeting gave two hours physical work a week, it would make all the difference.” He said that the ‘heavy work’ of getting the garden in place has now almost been completed. “But there is still an amount of work needed, and the more help we can get the easier it will be.”
The Library Garden project was first mooted in spring 2019 and has been developed with the cooperation of Kildare Library Services.
There are plans by KCA to organise a tour of the facility along with the Valley Park and the KCA polytunnel for those interested in the group’s horticultural and biodiversity activities.
At the meeting, Paul Leighton noted that National Biodiversity Week begins on 19 May and said the garden could be something to tie in with that for the town. “It would help put a focus on the KCA Biodiversity Plan and show everyone in the town what we are doing.”
Below is a short look at the garden in the summer of 2021.
