Kilcullen man Grand Marshall of Dromahair parade
Kilcullen didn't have a St Patrick's Day Parade this year, so the Diary is posting a couple of pictures from the very substantial one in Dromahair, Co Leitrim instead, writes Brian Byrne.
And why would we do that? Because the Grand Marshall for that parade was Kilcullen-born Garreth Byrne, your editor's brother, who lives there.
Garreth retired to Dromahair after a lifetime spent teaching in Africa and China, and is now embedded in cultural and heritage aspects of the Leitrim area, about which he writes regularly in a number of local and national publications.
Dromahair woman Bernie Linnane, another resident with strong connections to Kilcullen, suggested that the picture of Garreth and St Patrick illustrates well the Ireland of 'Saints and Scholars'. Quite.
