Big interest in Old Kilcullen heritage trail study

There was a strong level of interest this morning at the public presentation of the Feasibility Study for a Heritage Trail in the Old Kilcullen area, writes Brian Byrne.
The study was on display in Halverstown NS, and brought a constant stream of area residents and landowners, as well as other interested people. The event was hosted by Kildare County Council's Parks Department, which had commissioned the study from Athy-based Hayes Ryan Landscape Architecture.
Landscape architect Geraldine Hayes was on hand to explain the suggestions and details of the study, which included suggested routes for 'quiet road' techniques that would facilitate safe use of the public road sections for walkers.

Concerns about people walking through farm areas, and parking issues were among those raised and discussed. Geraldine Hayes was emphatic that no private land sections would be implemented without permission license and lease agreements being in place.
The study was carried out at the behest of the Old Kilcullen Area Residents Association and funded under the Department's Outdoor Recreation Grant Scheme.
Hayes Ryan have a large portfolio of completed projects, including the master-plan landscaping for Tayto Park, the Wedding Garden at Killashee House Hotel, the K Club Garden, and many award-winning gardens at the annual Bloom event in Dublin.
(The Diary will post a more comprehensive report at a later stage.)
