Nolan's Butchers win All-Ireland sausages trophy
It's now official — Nolans Butchers of Kilcullen make the best sausages in Ireland, writes Brian Byrne.
They were awarded the trophy for the Best Traditional Butchers Sausages at the finals today of the Irish Craft Butchers All-Ireland competition in Portlaoise.
The presentation was very much a Kilcullen area affair, as the prize was handed over by Kildare South TD and Minister of State for Agriculture Martin Heydon, in the presence of Jack Molloy, President of the Associated Craft Butchers of Ireland.
James dedicated the award to his late father Andy, who began making the sausages in the Kilcullen shop back in the 1960s, and also to Fred Mitchell of 'Team Nolans', who makes the winning sausages freshly every day.
