Gala concert for Nás na Rí Singers 50th
A gala concert to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Nás na Rí Singers will be held on Thursday 1 December 2022, in the Church of Our Lady and St David, Sallins Road, Naas, writes Brian Byrne.
The choir, founded in the old Naas Cotton Mills building under its first director Michael Weedle, currently has a number of Kilcullen members, notably Monica Martin, Breda Schwer and Gertrude Coffey, while Lindeke Hell and Margaret Coller hail from Calverstown.
Over the 50 years there have been nine musical directors, and hundreds of choir members have entertained thousands of audience members both in local concerts and on tours of Germany, Russia, Denmark, the Isle of Man, the Czech Republic, and England. In turn, many choirs in those countries reciprocated with tours to Ireland. Recently, St David’s Cathedral Singers from Wales (Naas is officially twinned with St David’s) performed in a joint concert with The Nás na Rí Singers in the hometown of Naas.
There are currently 72 choir members. Tickets for the gala anniversary concert, which will feature guest artists Zoe Conway and John McIntyre, can be booked at Eventbrite here.
