Music performance explores memory and personhood
A new music performance in the Riverbank Arts Centre next Friday, Beside the Sea, will explore the relationship between memory and personhood, and how to evoke the trajectory of a life through music, writes Brian Byrne.
The performance was written by composer Ian Wilson following his father's death after a long battle with Alzheimer's. It features violinist Dušica Mladenović and is directed by Olivia Songer and designed by Jack Scullion (son of Kilcullen artist and sculptor Noel Scullion).
Ian Wilson has written over 200 works, including operas, concertos, 20 string quartets, a range of orchestral and chamber music and multi-media pieces. His compositions have been performed and broadcast on six continents and presented at festivals including the BBC Proms, Venice Biennale and Frankfurt Bookfair.
Beside the Sea is funded by an Arts Council of Ireland Music Project Award and supported by Kildare County Council Arts Service and HSE Health Promotion & Improvement. The performance takes place at Riverbank Arts Centre on Friday 16 September at 8pm. Tickets at €18/€15 are available from the Box Office in person or over the phone, Monday-Friday 9.30am-5pm. Tickets can be booked online 24/7, with a €1 booking fee per ticket.
