Kilcullen Culture Night celebrates contribution of military residents

A Culture Night event in Kilcullen Community Library on Friday will celebrate the connection between members of the Defence Forces and the town, writes Brian Byrne.
‘Thank you for your service’ is an American salutation, but Librarian Julie O’Donoghue decided it could also be appropriate as title to an event which is her way of expressing the town’s appreciation to the now-retired members of the Defence Forces for their contribution to the local community.
“It is envisaged as an evening where they can tell their own stories,” Julie told the Diary. “And I’m hoping there might even be a song or two. There has always been a long association between Kilcullen and the Defence Forces due to our proximity to the Curragh Camp, and many of our military and former military residents have contributed in lots of ways to the community in Kilcullen, including to our local culture."
The event begins at 7pm and promises to be one of those informal Library events that always delights and surprises.
