Wildflower seed collections

Members of Kilcullen Community Action will be collecting wildflower seeds from areas around the town over the coming weeks, writes Brian Byrne.
Ray Kelly told the group's recent meeting that he hoped to grow from the seeds in the Tidy Towns polytunnel. He referenced Yellow Rattle as one of the wildflowers for which there had been a scarcity of commercial seeds last year because of demand — it is found in several local areas, including Nicholastown Green.
He encouraged any local residents groups to collect seeds from their own wild patches.
The matter came up in a brief reference to the KCA Biodiversity Plan. Noel Clare said it is time to look at it again and plan what needs to be done over the coming months. "We need to make the plan central to one upcoming meeting and organise elements to be done for the next three months and the people to implement them."
