Permission granted for Dunnstown sub-station extension

Kildare County Council has granted planning permission to Eirgrid to extend the Dunnstown 400kV sub-station near Carnalway, for the provision of series compensation equipment to the facility, writes Brian Byrne.
The development will include the decommissioning of existing overhead conductors and surge arrestors, and the provision of a 53-metre mast and three 28-metre high gantries to facilitate the diversion of the overhead lines into the compound.
Associated electrical installations and  a communication and protection equipment control building will also be provided.
The Dunnstown facility is the terminal point for the 400kV link to the Moneypoint power plant in Co Clare.
