First Responders presented with pin and certificate
Kilcullen Community First Responders were presented last evening with a special pin and certificate from the National Ambulance Service in recognition of their 'outstanding support for the Service, the wider health service, and their community' during the Covid-19 pandemic, writes Brian Byrne.
The presentation was made during a training session which simulated a real callout for a cardiac emergency.
In the simulation a text message was sent to the responders, the first of whom arrived at the 'emergency scene' within four minutes. Three had arrived within seven minutes.
The exercise was supervised by trainer Shauna Lynch of the National Ambulance Service, a responder herself.
The Kilcullen Responders now number seven — Shauna Lynch, Ronan Collier, Vivienne Wynne, Keith Hayes, Laura Begley, Olga O'Donovan, and Louise Tutty. A recruitment drive to add up to six more is now under way.
Responders will be directed by the Ambulance Service to local emergencies involving cardiac arrest, stroke, chest pains and choking.
The Kilcullen First Responders group is coordinated by Karen Cradock and Nichola Kennedy.
