A new brewery to be built by Diageo in Newbridge will be the country's first carbon-neutral facility of this kind, writes Brian Byrne. It will be powered solely by renewable energy and will have a state-of-the-art water management system.
It will also be the first brewery built by the drinks giant in Ireland since the 1960s, and the project represents an investment of €200 million.
Diageo will submit a planning application to Kildare Co Council in September this year and, if successful, plans to commence brewing in 2024 following a construction period of approximately two years.
The project has been welcomed by Kildare South TD and Minister Martin Heydon, who said he has been working with the company in recent times in my role as Minister of State in the Department of Agriculture. "Huge credit is due to Kildare Co Council officials, Enterprise Ireland, and the IDA for their work on this project," he said. "I am delighted that all the efforts to deliver this investment in Kildare South have finally paid off."
