We were Rock 'n' Roll Kids again last night
Your editor was among some 20 former Newbridge College classmates who were treated last night to a special rendition of the Irish Eurovision-winning song from 1994, 'Rock ‘n’ Roll Kids', performed by the original duo, Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan, writes Brian Byrne.
We were attending the 60th anniversary reunion of the Class of 1962, and the surprise performance was organised by one of the class's own members, the writer of the song, Brendan Graham, together with another classmate, John Hynes.
While we were still in the College the class would have collectively been considered 'rock n roll kids' because of the music of their generation.
Paul and Charlie also performed 'You Raise Me Up', the lyrics of which were written by Brendan to music composed by Secret Garden’s Rolf Løvland, plus one of Charlie McGettigan’s much-loved songs, ‘Feet of a Dancer’.
