A revisit to the Battle of Kilcullen

On this anniversary day of the Kilcullen action in the 1798 Rebellion, it has become a tradition for pupils in Scoil Bhride to walk to the tower of Old Kilcullen where  a key battle in that conflict took place, writes Brian Byrne.
After a discussion in the school about the rebellion and Kilcullen's place in it, the senior classes undertook the walk in beautiful weather, many of them dressed in the clothing styles of the time and carrying muskets and pikes.
At the tower, they had their lunch, and Gerry O'Donoghue and teacher Muiris Ó Raoghaill and some of his colleagues explored the actual battle site with them.
Bringing history and heritage to life.
