Weatherday: Limerick comrades
Low tide at Timoleague (2017). |
A cloudy day with maybe a few bright spells. It should remain mostly dry.
Local temperatures up to 13deg in moderate southerly breezes.
On this day in 1919, Limerick City's Trades Council went on strike against British militarism. As the Limerick Soviet, they took over the running of the city for the following three weeks, publishing their own newspapers and issuing their own currency. The move gained worldwide publicity.
