Lauren doing hair cut and dye for LauraLynn

A Kilcullen girl's plan to cut her long hair on 23 April will help to provide wigs for little girls who lose their hair due to serious illness, writes Brian Byrne.
Lauren Boyle, aged 11, was inspired to do this because her cousin and godfather Aaron was ill with leukaemia when he was a teenager, and his little brother Evan raised a substantial amount of money for the Barretstown and Make A Wish charities by dying his hair at the time.
The cut will take place in Ellen's Hair Salon in Kilcullen, and afterwards Lauren will dye her hair purple to further raise awareness for the Locks of Love initiative by the LauraLynn children's hospice.
She is a pupil at Scoil Bhride, and her classmates and teachers are fully behind Lauren's initiative. "My friends are really excited," she told the Diary.
"It has been about four years since Lauren last had a major haircut," says her mother Elaine, "and it is around 12 inches long at the moment. As for the purple dye afterwards, we have already been told by the school that this won't be an issue."
In addition to Lauren donating her hair, those who want to support her brave act can contribute to her iDonate page here
