Dowling Property and Irish Red Cross seeking refugee accommodation
Kilcullen based auctioneers Dowling Property have been appointed by the Irish Red Cross as local voluntary property inspectors to evaluate accommodation for refugees.
The work is in association with the Institute of Professional Auctioneers & Valuers (IPAV) and DP have already been carrying out property inspections on various pledges of accommodation which people have kindly offered.
John Dowling says people have been very generous to date. "Offers have been impressive, but unfortunately we need more offers to fill the need that’s coming down the line," he says. "People pledge their properties with the Irish Red Cross through its website and then we are contacted to inspect the accommodation. We have all being watching the upsetting scenes unfolding on the news and this is an important way we can all help practically."
John Dowling says people may not realise that they may have suitable accommodation. "It may be a cabin in the back of your garden, a spare bedroom in your house that you haven’t used in years, a granny flat or a garage conversion. We meet the owners and go through any questions you have."
A set of guidelines have been prepared by the Irish Red Cross, and all offers may not be suitable. Anyone who would like to pledge accommodation can log on to registerofpledges.redcross.ie.
