'Calves for Ukraine' special sale at Kilcullen Mart

A special Calves for Ukraine Sale will be held at Leinster Marts in Kilcullen on Wednesday 20 April, writes Brian Byrne.

Proceeds from the sale will be given in their entirety to the Irish Red Cross Ukraine Appeal.

The initiative is a joint one between the Mart and the Kildare West Wicklow IFA, and will be supported by the MartEye auction streaming service.

"The idea is that farmers will donate a beef calf to the sale, and we're looking at in the region of 50 calves so far," says Leinster Mart's Patricia Lawler.

Calves for Ukraine will be the first sale of the day, beginning at 11am sharp.

"We'll have representatives from the Irish Red Cross there on the day, and anyone who wants to come in and make a donation will be welcome," Patricia says. "And, of course, anyone who wants to come and buy a calf."

Leinster Marts Kilcullen celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017.
