Pat and Betty Goulding are to retire from business

Longtime Kilcullen stalwarts Pat and Betty Goulding are to retire from  their hardware business in Naas, writes Brian Byrne.
After more than four decades running their shop opposite Swans of Naas, they have put the premises up for sale.
Pat told the Leinster Leader that while it 'would be nice' to see it continue as a hardware store, the future of the premises 'will be for somebody else to decide'. He says there have been some enquiries from people who may be interested in buying it as a going concern.
In 2018, the business was awarded Highly Commended status in the third annual Expert Hardware Awards, presented by rugby pundit and ambassador for the Expert Hardware brand Brent Pope.
In 2013, Pat was made a special presentation by Kilcullen Credit Union for 29 years' service to the CU. In addition to his work in Kilcullen CU, where his expertise was especially useful as a member of the Building Committee, he also served as President of the Chapter 7 region. He was also a member of the Kilcullen Pastoral Council.
Pat served his time to the hardware trade in Brennan's of Kilcullen. He and Betty live in Ballysax. In addition to nuts and bolts and timber and cement and all the things needed for home maintenance, he also has had an abiding interest in old cars, and he is pictured here in 2008 with his Singer Gazelle.
