Weatherday: A last step for mankind, for now

A dull and misty start with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Later afternoon will see more light rain, but considerably warmer temperatures of up to 12deg in  moderate breezes from the south-west.

On this day in 1972, geologist Harrison Schmitt, an astronaut on Apollo 17, became the last man to date to set foot on the moon.
