Call for recommissioning of New Abbey Road crossing

Kildare County Council is being asked to reinstate the lights at the Pelican crossing on the New Abbey Road near the Library, writes Brian Byrne.

The request is by way of a question from Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer put down for the next meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District.

She also wants the Council to insert dish sections in the footpaths at the crossing, to facilitate wheelchair users who want to cross to the Library.

The crossing was established while the Millstream Court housing development was under construction, when there was restricted footpath access. It was de-commissioned when full access to the footpath was restored, but the road markings remain.
