Rain clearing to give a cloudy day with sunny spells. Some scattered showers in late afternoon, and temperatures up to 10deg in moderate breezes from the west.
On this day in 1755, a tsunami triggered by the Great Lisbon Earthquake hit the south and west coasts of Ireland.
Up to 100,000 people were reported dead in Portugal alone, and in Ireland large parts of Cork city were flooded, with further damage reported all the way up to Galway.
