Appeal for donations to Christmas Lights cost — no KCC grant this year

Some of last year's Christmas lights.

A special appeal for local support towards the cost of this year's Christmas Lights has been made by Kilcullen Community Action, writes Brian Byrne, following news that Kildare County Council is not in a position to give financial help this year.

The cost of repairing and erecting the lights and the Christmas tree in the square comes to around €1,500, and the electricity cost will be in the region of €2,500.

"We are all very much mindful of the past two years and how difficult it has been for both the businesses and the community," says KCA director Antoinette Buckley. "But every small donation counts and will help the group to support the town and businesses with a beautiful display for 2021."

KCA volunteers and CES workers are currently installing the lights for this year, but the organisation would really appreciate any financial support possible. Businesses and residents can donate to the Christmas Lights by contacting any KCA member — Noel Clare, Ann Cashman, Antoinette Buckley, Ray Kelly, Martin Sheridan, or Eoin Houlihan.

Donation by credit transfer is also possible to the group's account, IBAN: IE15 BOFI 9011 4090 7950 53.
