On this day in 1810, the first Oktoberfest was celebrated in Munich, Germany, as a horse race to celebrate the marriage of crown prince Ludwig of Bavaria to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. It became a 17/18-day festival which attracts more than six million visitors. Oktoberfest was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 and will return in 2022.
