Local athletes representing Ireland
Three local athletes have been selected to represent the Irish Schools Athletics Team in an international match against the English, Scottish and Welsh Schools Teams this weekend, writes Neil Taylor.
The SIAB Schools International Track and Field Championships 2021 takes place on Saturday the 25th of September at the Moorways Stadium in Derby. It is an annual event where the best schools athletes from the four countries meet in top tier athletics competition.
All three qualified for selection having placed First or Second in the recent Tailteann Schools Interprovincial Competition.
Lara Prendergast (pictured above left) is from Cut Bush and attends Newbridge College. Lara will compete in Javelin and her home athletics club is Suncroft AC.
Holly Wright (above centre) is from Dunlavin and will compete in both Shot Putt and Discus. Holly is a student in St Kevin’s Community College and competes for her school and Crookstown Millview Athletics Club.
Paddy Taylor (above right) is from Kilcullen and attended Scoil Bhride before moving on to Newbridge College. Paddy will also compete in Javelin and competes in club competition for Crookstown Millview.
Congratulations to all three on a wonderful achievement. All involved in local Schools and Club athletics would like to wish Holly, Lara and Paddy the best of luck in Derby.
