Weatherday: The last Quagga
Library garden, October 2020 to August 2021. |
A dry and bright start, with some cloud building by lunchtime. Showers in the afternoon will clear to a partly cloudy evening.
Fresh to strong wind from the south will ease through the evening. Temperatures up to 17deg.
On this day in 1883, the last Quagga, a unique form of zebra, died in an Amsterdam zoo. Once in great numbers in South Africa, they were hunted to extinction following the European colonisation of the region.
