Grant money available for enhancing streetscapes
Funding of €320,000 is being made available to Kildare County Council in a Streetscape Enhancement Initiative for rural towns and villages, writes Brian Byrne.
The money from the Department of Rural and Community Development is part of a €7 million fund to be given to property owners across the country to improve the facades of their buildings.
The money can be used to paint frontages in bright colours, provide murals, restore historic or traditional shopfronts, or to provide street planting, shrubbery, or trees and flower boxes.
Installing canopies and street furniture will also fall under the permitted uses, as will the decluttering of streetscapes by removing unnecessary signs or wires.
The Council will be asked to nominate at least two towns or villages to be allocated the money.
Depending on the project, the grants will cover 70pc, 80pc, or 100pc of costs.
