Gardai seek identity of body found in Kilcullen

The Liffey through the Valley in Kilcullen.

Gardai in Kilcullen are trying to establish the identity a man whose body was found in the Liffey this morning, writes Brian Byrne.

The alarm was raised around 11am when the body was seen in the river, on the Valley side opposite the Market Square apartments.

The body was retrieved by local businessman Alan O'Connell, who took a canoe out to the spot, a deep part of the river, and brought him down to the bridge area where emergency services took over.

The man is described as being about 60, with a moustache and receding hair. It's understood that he didn't have ID on his person.
