Weatherday: The Roche-Haughey Tour

Bright or sunny spells this morning will give way to cloud thickening from the west. Some showers in late afternoon will develop into thundery pours later.

Spot flooding possible, and be aware of quite greasy road surfaces when the rain arrives. Highest temperature 20deg or so, in light westerly breezes.

On this day in 1987, Stephen Roche became the first Irish cyclist to win the Tour de France. Then Taoiseach Charles Haughey flew to Paris to join him on the podium.
