Halverstown CC makes T20 semi-finals
It will be an historic day for Halverstown Cricket Club when they will be playing in the T20 semi-finals this coming Saturday, July 17th. Halverstown 2 will face Kilkenny 2 in Brannockstown at 2pm.
This season Halverstown Cricket Club entered a second team to play in Cricket Leinster’s T20 Cup. Halverstown 2, based around the Halverstown Oaks social team, was entered into the Adamstown Cup, which features teams from the lower divisions of the league, with Halverstown 1 playing in the Junior Cup with teams from the middle divisions. Halverstown 2 played home and away matches against North Kildare 5, Athlone 3 and Adamstown 8 and topped its qualifying group with five straight wins before its only defeat, losing to local rivals North Kildare last week in the final match of the series. It was still easily enough to qualify for the semi-finals.
The Captain of Halverstown 2, Des Drumm, said this has been an exciting season for Halverstown. "Firstly with the addition of so many new players, then with the creation of Halverstown 2 as a team in this, the shortest format of the game and now the success we have had on the pitch in topping our group. Qualifying for the semi-finals in our first ever competitive season is a great boost for this historic club."
Spectators are welcome to come along to the game at the Harristown estate, Brannockstown, on Saturday as Halverstown 2 look to continue their successful run in this 20/20 over format and take the club all the way to the finals. For any non-members wishing to attend the match, please contact the club secretary, Stuart Conroy, at stuart_conroy24@yahoo.ie to book a place since there is an attendance limit (100 spectators) because of Covid restrictions.
