Flash fuel sale at Applegreen brings motorist queues

Applegreen's motto is 'Low Fuel Prices, Always', but for a time this afternoon it was 'Very, Very Low' prices, for exactly 2 hours 47 minutes, writes Brian Byrne.

As they were across the country, the Applegreen station in Kilcullen became a focus for queues of motorists once the news was broadcast on social media and radio.

The 'flash sale' began at 2.47pm, with a cut of 24.7c per litre off both petrol and diesel prices, petrol down to 130.1c from 154.8c and diesel at 119.1 from 143.8c. The reason was a celebration of Applegreen's 24/7 birthday. The company was founded on 24th of July 1992.

There were other treats in store, including car washes, Slushees, 99s and Applegreen’s iconic 100% Irish Chicken Fillet roll and Breakfast Roll for just €2.47 each.

In addition, two cents for every customer transaction today, at no extra cost to the customer, was being paid directly into the Applegreen Charitable Fund that partners with the Irish Youth Foundation, Enable Ireland, Pieta House and Food Cloud.

Average fuel prices have not been priced this low since May of last year, when the pandemic substantially depressed world oil prices worldwide.
