Ballyshannon: Funding appeal for Judicial Review
The Ballyshannon Action Group has issued an appeal for funding to cover costs involved in the next stage of their fight against the proposed local Kilsaran sand and gravel quarry, writes Brian Byrne.
Following a meeting last night, the group has committed to continuing its opposition to the quarry, for which permission was recently granted by An Bord Pleanala. This permission overturned a refusal by Kildare County Council.
The BAG say they have 'a matter of weeks' in which to apply for a Judicial Review of what they describe as 'an appalling decision'. Citing the development as 'inappropriate', the group claim the quarry 'will bring an end to life as we know it' in their rural locality and surrounding areas.
They say the development will create dust and noise six days a week, bring a minimum of 72 additional HGV truck journeys to their local roads every day, jeopardise equine businesses and employment in the area, make local roads a hazard and no-go area for walkers and cyclists, and will devalue property.
A GoFundMe page for the campaign is accessible here. Deposits to a Credit Union account can also be made — IBAN: IE67KIRI99217910372756.
The group also has a Facebook page.
