Stephanie Yon MEP to lead digital market regulation negotiations

Stephanie Yon MEP, who led the twinning delegation to Kilcullen from the Normandy town of Saint-Contest in March 2019, has been appointed Rapporteur in the European Parliament for the Digital Markets Act, writes Brian Byrne.

Working on behalf of the Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs she will be conducting negotiations for the regulation of digital platforms, especially the giants like Google, Amazon, Facebook and Apple.

Noting that these companies have acquired 'unprecedented power' which has allowed them 'set their own rules at the expense of their competitors and consumers', she says she is committed to negotiating regulation that will ensure fair online competition.

Ms Yon led the twinning delegation as then Mayor of Saint-Contest and signed the Twinning Agreement during the St Patrick's Festival and Kilcullen 700 celebrations in Kilcullen. She was elected an MEP the following May.

A return visit to Saint Contest in planning for April of last year had to be postponed due to coronavirus. Twinning activities have been stalled since.
