New War of Independence publication about Kildare 'ideal for school projects'
A new publication from the Kildare Library Service on Ireland's War of Independence will be very useful for second level students in Kildare who want to produce special history projects on the conflict, writes Brian Byrne.
One of the authors of A Timeline of the War of Independence in County Kildare, 1919-1922, Mario Corrigan, (listen to the clip above), says the project has been in train for the last two years, with key research by Kevin O'Kelly, who delved into historical books on the War of Independence as well as painstakingly going through the archives of Ireland's newspapers of the time.
Co-authors with Mario Corrigan and Kevin O'Kelly were historian James Durney, with input from Kevin Murphy and Karel Kiely.
The 128-page booklet is published as part of the County Kildare Decade of Commemorations Programme for 2021 and is available online from Kildare Library Service. From the end of this week, printed copies will be distributed through the Kildare Library system.
A full interview with Mario Corrigan will feature on tomorrow morning's The Daily Cast, available on Kilcullen Diary from 9am.
