Did you catch the Daily Cast last week?

We had an interesting range of people and subjects in the past week's series of Daily Cast podcasts, writes Brian Byrne. All worth a listen back to if you missed them.

On Monday, Dawn Behan of Woodbine Books previewed the launch of a new book for children, based on the mythology around Fionn mac Cumhaill, and also considered the potential of the rich vein of storytelling available from that source.

Tuesday's Cast centred around Shirley Kavanagh Hallion and how lockdown turned her Secret Kloset store from local to global.

We had two features on Wednesday, with Cliona Kelliher providing an update on progress of the Kilcullen Community 4 Climate Action, and Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer outlining the planning and costs to restaurants and cafes offering outdoor dining is being addressed in this second pandemic summer.

As Thursday was Poetry Day Ireland 2021, we spoke to Kilcullen-born Daragh Byrne, now a longtime resident of Sydney in Australia, where he is developing a reputation as a fine poet.

We closed off the week with a brief look back at the early days of Kilcullen Credit Union, from the recollections of John Brady and Pat Goulding. The initiative reached its 50th anniversary last week.

Our Persons of Interest included short resumes of Mr Twangy Guitar himself, Duane Eddy, still picking away in great style. We looked at the life of Mary Ward, one of Ireland's great naturalist scientists, and at that of Oskar Schindler who is credited with saving 1,200 Jews from death during WW2. Paul Cullen, the Kildare-born first Irish Cardinal was another focus, as was Eva Braun, Hitler's companion.

The Daily Cast resumes again on Tuesday morning. Make it a regular date.
