Tennis Club ready to reopen on 1 May

Work on two courts.

Kilcullen Tennis Club will reopen on 1 May with three courts featuring top of the range playing surfaces, writes Brian Byrne.

Final installation of the courts is currently under way, and a grant application has recently been submitted towards the cost of renovating the clubhouse. There are future plans for the development of a table tennis club.

The work to date has been assisted by a €66,000 grant from the Sports Capital Programme part funded by National Lottery, with support from Martin Heydon TD, Cllr Tracey O’ Dwyer, Greg Norris and Tennis Ireland’s CEO Richard Fahey.

The club, which was relaunched in 2017 after being non-active for decades, currently has 170 members. There's now potential capacity for 300, and the club has retained coach Cormac Doherty to run group coaching for all levels and to train those who wish to compete.

Coaching for children and teens begins on Saturday mornings from 8 May and will run for eight weeks, with no experience necessary to participate.

New members can avail of an offer of 15 months membership fees for the cost of 12 if they join now. More details from ktcmembershipmail@gmail.com, or find the club on Facebook or Instagram under Kilcullen Tennis Club.
