Fires near Avondale appear to have been deliberate
(8.30pm) Two units from Newbridge Fire Brigade are fighting three fires on waste land just behind Avondale Estate in Kilcullen, writes Brian Byrne.
The fires, between Avondale and the GAA grounds, were noticed about an hour or so ago by local residents. They appear to have been deliberately lit.
"If it was one you could maybe believe it was a careless cigarette, but with three separate fires, it can only have been deliberate," a member of the Fire Service told the Diary.
It was the second callout for the fire crews, who had been in Dunlavin since this morning fighting a serious shed fire.
