Power out, but some Main Street businesses open

During the scheduled electricity outage today, a number of businesses remain open, writes Brian Byrne. This is thanks to the use of a generator connected to a substation in Nolan's Car Park, which supplies power to several premises.
They include Armelle's, Nolan's, Eurospar, and Ger's Fruit & Veg. Burke's Chemist and the Gala store on Hillcrest are also open, as their electricity substation is connected via Naas.
The River Cafe is closed, as is the Kilcullen branch of Kildare Credit Union. Berneys Chemist is also closed.
According to the notice provided by ESB Networks the outage should finish by 4.30pm.
