Looking Back: Road Grant — Unemployment Relieved in County Kildare

The unemployment has been relieved to a great extent in the Co. Kildare by the work which is proceeding on different roads in the county, following the recent grants. Some 40 men are engaged on the Trunk road between Old Kilcullen and Ballyshannon and it is expected that in a day or two some 40 others will find employment.

The Trunk road between Kilcullen and Athy is being widened and instead of the Trunk road being 12 feet, as at present, it will be 21 feet in width.

The total amount to be expended on trunk roads in Co. Kildare is €27,000, and a large proportion of this, it is expected, will be spent in the Kilcullen, Castledermot and Athy areas.
