Looking Back: Mr James J Byrne's New Emporium
Mr Jas. J. Byrne's extensive new stores at Kilcullen are stocked with everything of the choicest, and his fine emporium is at present shown at its best.
His premises constitute a veritable universal providing store in which few articles between the proverbial needle and the anchor may not be found.
Customers wants of all descriptions are catered for with a precision of knowledge which reflects the keen business acumen of this enterprising young merchant.

(Credit to Dave Byrne for trawling through the old papers for reports relating to Kilcullen. A note on this one is that it relates to Dave's and your Editor's grandfather. For those not old enough to remember the hardware and drapery, located where Eurospar is now, you can listen to my memory of it here. The picture below shows the frontage of the shop in 1922.)
